Citizens of EU, EFTA, and EEA countries
Citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland) enjoy freedom of movement within the European Economic Area (EEA). EU and EFTA citizens do not require a visa or residence permit to enter Germany for employment purposes.
Non-EU citizens who do not require an entry visa (only a residence permit for work purposes)
Citizens of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America may enter Germany without a visa. Citizens of these countries can apply for a residence permit for work purposes directly at the Foreigners Authority (“Ausländerbehörde“) before taking up employment.
