Münchner Arbeit gemeinnützige GmbH is the city’s subsidiary company for employment and qualification. As a part of Make it in Munich, Münchner Arbeit offers free pre-arrival online counseling and informative seminars – all to equip you with the knowledge you need for a smooth transition.
We understand the common challenges newcomers might face:
- Long and confusing transition periods
- Limited free support services available prior to the arrival in Munich
- Lack of a clear integration path and official information

- One-on-one and group consultations: As chosen participants, you will receive personalized guidance in multiple languages – even before you arrive!

The “Münchner Volkshochschule” (MVHS) offers courses from A1 to C1 – to improve your German language skills before you arrive in Munich.
Learning German is a crucial step in preparing for life in this vibrant city. German language skills will help you integrate into the workforce, engage in social activities and build networks. MVHS, Germany’s largest language school, is here to help you every step of the way.
At the Münchner Volkshochschule, we offer a variety of courses tailored to different skill levels: from complete beginners to advanced learners.
If you already have some knowledge of German, it’s important to assess your current level – so that our colleagues can place you in the appropriate course.
- Placement test: A short placement test ensures that you are placed in the right course. For that, we offer guidance in several languages.
- Course levels: We offer courses for beginners (A1 and A2) with experienced and friendly teachers.
- Advanced levels: For those with advanced skills, we offer customized courses at higher levels.
- Learning format: Classes are conducted via video conference, with self-paced learning on our platform.
- Small groups: Learn in small groups tailored to your level, pace and goals.
- Support throughout the course: Receive individual and group counseling to ensure your learning success. MVHS provides consultation services in multiple languages – to help you understand the course offerings and choose the best fit for you.

- Digital Skills Basics: Learn the basics of how to use technology in everyday life and work, such as making appointments, protecting yourself from scams, creating and managing documents, communicating effectively, and more.
Advanced digital skills:

Introduction to Code, Data, and Design: A comprehensive introduction to four key tech fields to complement your non-IT background or to kickstart your career change: UX design, web development, Python, and data analytics. With the guidance of tech professionals in Munich, you will gain fundamental knowledge and hands-on experience. You will also explore the career options in each field.
Python: Get a solid foundation in one of the most popular programming languages. An understanding of how programming works is helpful but not required. If you do not have any experience with tech, consider starting with the Introduction course instead.
Machine Learning: Build on your existing tech profile with this in-demand tech topic. Learn core concepts and techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, natural language processing, and time series forecasting. Knowledge of Python and data science is required.
