Munich is social: these services support you

This city has a big heart: If you find yourself in a difficult situation, you can access free counseling and the support system in Munich. There are several institutions available within Munich social services, to help you get back on your feet – and they offer a lot of social care.

However, it is important to note that finding immediate help can sometimes be challenging, and it may take time for social services to assist. The process can be drawn out. Still: You are not alone in this! Find out more here.

Social services in Munich: your local support system

Germany boasts a robust social security system, offering a safety net for its citizens during challenging times like illness or unemployment.

The City of Munich provides a variety of social services – through district social work facilities (“Sozialbürgerhäuser”) and the central support facility for the homeless (“Zentrale Wohnungslosenhilfe” page in German). These services are available to all Munich residents, regardless of background, gender identity, disability, age, or beliefs. However, shelters are often at capacity, so these services cannot be fully relied upon in times of homelessness.

Anybody can find themselves in social hardship. If you need information, counseling, or assistance, you can receive qualified and confidential counseling – free of charge.

Do you require advice in a particular life situation? /// Are you in financial difficulty? /// Do you require support in old age? /// Are you facing problems in your family or partnership? /// Do you have questions about raising your children – or are you looking for childcare? /// Are you struggling to pay your rent  – or are you under threat of eviction? /// Have you lost your job?

Have a look at this flyer for more information. Here, you can find a list with the addresses of the Sozialbürgerhäuser near you (page in German).
